Wesley Bishop Obituary

'Another Landmark Gone'

"Wesley Bishop, an aged and very highly respected citizen residing in the vicinity of Edwina, died last Sunday, with a complication of diseases incident to old age. He had been in a critical condition for several weeks prior to his death. Kind friends, a devoted wife and other relatives did all they could for his recovery and to make his last hours on earth as pleasant as possible, but all in vain. Mr. Bishop was born in Louden county, Virginia, Spetember 3, 1812, and was therefore over 86 years of age at the time of his death (October 16, 1898). In 1817 he moved with his parents to Eastern Ohio, locating at Flushing, where they resided many years. Mr. Bishop's father lived to the remarkable age of 111 years and his mother to the age of 93.

Wesley Bishop, the subject of this sketch, came to Monroe county in 1845 and located in the Cooper settlement between Woodsfield and Malaga. A little later he purchased a farm near Edwina, the place of his death, where he completed his life work with the exception of a few months in 1885, when he resided in Woodsfield. Mr. Bishop had been twice married, and his last wife survives. In addition several children and a large circle of other relatives and friends are left to mourn his death. Mr. Wesley Bishop was a member of the U.B. Church and a good man in every respect. Interment at the U.B. cemetery on Moose ridge last Sunday. We hope to be able to give further particulars soon."
