Samuel Gates Obituary

Samuel Gates, aged 92 years, and one of the oldest residents of Beallsville, Monroe County, died after an illness of several years at midnight last Saturday. He was the last Civil War veteran in Beallsville and was also a member of the M. E. Church.

Surviving Mr. Gates are a daughter, Mrs. Celeste Markey, of Beallsville; also one granddaughter, Mrs. Vera Bonebright of Dover; three sisters, Mrs. Harriett Brown, Mrs. Minta Pugh and Mrs. Elizabeth Riley, all of the Beallsville community, and one brother Douglass Gates of Altitude.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the late home in charge of his pastor, Rev. M. Lafollette. Military honors were accorded by Monroe Post No. 87 of the American Legion. Interment in Beallsville cemetery.
